Washington, DC being the capital city of the United States of America is known to be ethnically and economically diverse with unique patterns of settlement and change. The study shows a broad spectrum spatial distribution of the residences of the inhabitants by ethnicities, cultures, socio-economic status, etc.

Crime activity usually increase with less police presence and surveillance. GIS offers law enforcement agencies (LEAs) a formidable tool to understand how crimes vary with space (distance from law enforcement agencies) and the time of day such crimes are committed. It offers LEAs the ability to explore factors that enhance or diminish crimes for better resource allocation towards fighting such crimes. This study shows the relationship between crime activity and distance from police stations. Hurricane Katrina was the eleventh named storm and fifth hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. At its peak, it stretched about 400 miles across with sustained winds of about 100 to 175 miles an hour, “she” proved to be one of the costliest and deadliest natural disasters in the history of the United States. The map shows infrastructure and Health facilities destroyed by the 15-foot surge of water in counties around the Mississippi river corridor.
